Thanks Steve

I owe a big Thank You to Steve Zieser for creating the banner you now see above, adorning the top of the page at Ye Auld Grog & Blog. I wanted to give this dusty old place a new look, and Steve was kind enough to draw the horde of menacing Goblins which are now invading your computer screen. I'm proud to unfurl this new banner at the top of my web log, thanks again Steve!

You can find many more of Steve's excellent drawings at his own blog, Curmudgeons & Dragons.

  1. Very nice! I need a new banner myself, since I fear it's only a matter of time before WotC decides to lower the boom on my use of Tramp's artwork.

  2. I certainly feel much better now about using something with permission (rather than that chopped Frazetta I was using). I find this banner more evocative of my games as well.

  3. It's really big! It's good! But... big! And ... uhh... big! ;)

  4. "Look at banner, Michael!"

Very nice indeed! And yes, big too. My screen has a horizontal resolution 1440 pixels and the banner still stretches off the side of my browser page.

  5. I dig it. I loved the Frazetta piece, but this works. One of my favorite things about your blog is the art you choose to decorate it. The stuff you’ve used in alongside the Dim Expanse and the Dismal Depths material is nearly as good as the material itself for establishing the mood and the feel of the setting.

  6. Hmmm. It looks good on my screen, but I do have a wide panel and high res display working heh. I'll take a looksee at it from one of our other computers and see if I should rescale it lol. Thanks for pointing this out.

Oh, and thank you shimrod! :-)

  7. Well, I did a Shrink to Fit on layout after seeing it on another computer. It's a bit smaller than I would like but I think the overall look is better than having it spill out over the screen.

    Thanks again :-)

  8. I agree, and thanks for saying so. The text is a wee bit small, but no complaints from me. To his credit, Steve had nothing to do with the text, that was all Mr. Thumbs here at the keyboard so don't blame him :-)

  9. The resize is perfect.

  10. Very cool! IMHO Steve is one of the most exciting new-old-school artists emerging.

  12. PS - I'm running 1680 x 1050 pixels, so that might explain why it "looked fine to me" before. Yep, I like tiny letters on my screen.

  13. It looks old school. It might be the hatching and shading that does that. I don't know the right term to use - I mean the little lines that lend a sense of depth and shadow.

  14. riprock: Hatching is the correct term. It's the use of varying thickness or distance between solid lines to give the illusion of depth or shadow. Hatching is the only way to blend shadow and light in Pen & Ink drawings, short of introducing water and altering the ink on the page.
